For any of you who have ever wondered what it's like to time travel and such...just take the short 13-hour flight from LA to New Zealand and you can bypass an entire day of your life! It was so bizarre to leave on Saturday evening, fly for 13 hours and wake up in a brand new country on Monday morning!
All of that to say...we finally made it to New Zealand this morning at 6am. After deboarding the 400 person plane, getting 6 pieces of luggage from baggage claim, clearing customs and finding a shuttle to take us to our apartment...we finally got here to our temporary apartment in time to rest for a minute and then we hit the ground running! It was still pitch black and slightly raining when we arrived, but it cleared out and was a gorgeous morning for us to experience the city for the first time!
Our apartment is literally right in the middle of downtown Auckland--it's like being in a city that's a combination of NYC, London and Lisbon all at once! There is so much to see and do...it's going to take forever for us to see even a fraction of this place. Check out the view from our place though...
After getting Drew's tax ID, activating our bank accounts, setting up our New Zealand phones there was only one thing left to do...
Yup--that's right! Mickey D's!! They are literally on every single block and they're all SUPER nice! Their food still tastes the same...although the Coke & Sprite taste slightly off.
Anyway--after getting everything set up and have an American fast food fix, we relaxed at the apartment, watched a movie and then ventured out one last time to get dinner...Domino's Pizza! We swear that we won't eat from American-based chains the whole 2 years that we're here, but we stuck to what we knew and what was close by for our first night in town.
It's just before 7:00pm local time here and we're about to go to bed...we've got a big day of apartment shopping tomorrow! I'll definitely post about that as soon as we have more info and pictures!
Cheers!
Katie
