The first 'wonder' that we found was Samuel Adams beer. I know that sounds very trivial, but it's one of Drew's favorite beers and until a few weeks ago, they didn't sell it here in New Zealand. Drew is very hopeful that they will continue to send over their seasonal brews so he can stock up on them for the next year.
To add to our winter enjoyment we went with some friends to a Blues rugby match last Saturday night. We bundled up expecting the worst, but it surprisingly wasn't THAT cold out. Our friend, Craig, joined us and we caught the free train from downtown to Eden Park. Seating is just general admission for the most part, so we grabbed some good seats until our friends Will & Tally arrived with some of their friends. While we were waiting for the game to start, we happened to look in the row behind us and saw our friends Erin & Scott trying to find some seats. Such a small world! We got to catch up with them for a bit before relocating to our seats once the match started. Still knowing nothing about rugby, we just watched and enjoyed and cheered when we were told to. It's still a fun thing to do and to just be out and about with friends.
On Monday afternoon, we found another 'wonder' when we went to look at a potential new apartment. We headed out east of the city to a town called Kohimarama which is right on the beach--so you know Drew was in heaven. The leasing agent showed us around, told us all about the unit and the owners and we were sold! We headed straight home to submit the application and by that afternoon our price, move-in date and lease term had been accepted and we signed our lease! We will move in mid-August and will look forward to redecorating a little, being able to finally have people over and stare at this awesome view!!
(disclaimer: the unit does come furnished, but we will be taking down some of the stuff and hoping that our personal touch makes it feel a little less dated.)
Tuesday, I got to go on a fun outing with my dear friend Katie B., her baby Elliot and her mom, Jackie, who is in town visiting her new grandson for a few weeks. We headed up north to the Matakana area (about 40 minutes north of town) for the day. We first went to a world-famous (not sure how far that really extends) pottery place called Morris & James. We got to do a tour and see how they make everything and then, of course, we had to do a little shopping. Then we had an incredible lunch and little Elliot just slept the entire time.
Afterwards, we headed down to the road to the Brick Bay Winery where we went on a 2K sculpture walk that they have on the property. They have about 50 different sculptures from various artists all along the walk and a map that you follow that tells you about the different pieces. To end the day, we did a brief wine tasting and enjoyed the sunshine on a very pleasant 'winter' day.
