Yesterday, however, we did climb the Auckland Bridge to watch our friends Erin and Scott bungee jump off of it! Today is Scott's birthday, so as part of his gift, Erin set up a bungee jumping experience for the 2 of them. We surprised Scott at the bridge and ended up actually getting to go out to watch them jump! We had to wear helmets and safety belts and it took about 10 minutes to walk out to the middle of the bridge. Mind you, the bungee-ing actually takes place underneath the bridge, so there is a glassed-in capsule that you climb up to where they have a disco ball and blast techno music to distract from the noise of hundreds of cars driving above your head!
I am terrified of heights so just going out there was a bit of a challenge for me! Even though you're strapped on to the railing, you're walking along a metal grated platform the whole way out there with nothing but very cold water beneath you.
Scott went first and actually touched the water! Poor Erin had to wait for everyone else to go before she went--but that's just because she's so teeny tiny that she had to be last since they order the jumpers by weight.
Don't worry, parents...we will not be partaking in the actual bungee jumping anytime soon!
Once we had our feet firmly planted on land again, we hopped over to a yummy Japanese restaurant for sushi, sake, and bento boxes for lunch! Then, last night Erin hosted a surprise American-themed party for Scott at their house and we had a lot of fun!
Cheers!
