This poem is in the opening dedication of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby' and having read the book for the first time in junior year in high school, I still remember this poem word for word. My AP english teacher (who is still my favorite teacher) was so passionate about this book and all of the little nuances in it...starting on the first page with this poem.
Anyway--I digress. This post is not about the book or even the movie (although I do love me some Leo enough to do a whole post on him), but it is about the annual PwC ball that was a few weeks ago and had....you guessed it...a Great Gatsby theme!
Drew & I had so much fun getting ready before Will & Tally headed over and we walked down to the Viaduct Events Center.
Tally suggested we stop and take some pictures in front of the Sky Tower which was a great idea. See for yourself....
When we arrived, there were girls dressed as flappers waiting to greet us and usher us inside. Then we walked into the immaculate space where plants, water fountains, ice sculptures and art deco furniture filled the huge ballroom. Waiters passed around wine and beer and champagne to get the party started off right.
They also had a vintage car parked inside and a photographer taking pictures of each couple. That car was totally up our alley...perfect color and everything!
Then they opened the huge red curtains to expose the main ballroom where everyone was to be seated for dinner. Let me just point out that there were approximately 700 people at this event so there were a LOT of tables! We found our way over to our table...number 57...and had some lovely people, including Drew's partner coach Pip, at our table. 
They opened the evening with a brief speech and then some amazing Cirque du Soleil-type performers who were truly amazing. The band sang a few songs as appetizers were served--we each had a venison dish, although Drew didn't eat much of his. Then, it was time for the main dish which was a delicious filet with crusted mushrooms and a risotto cake. They had a huge dessert bar with various treats, but we were so full at that point that we didn't indulge much.
The band was absolutely incredible and had us dancing the night away. We mingled with some of our friends, enjoyed too much champagne and all in all had a great night! Gatsby's got nothing on Drew ;)
I really wish we got to go to events like this back in the States because it really is a fun time when a huge group gets together to dress up and indulge in a decadent evening. We're hoping that the ball will be at the end of July next year so that we can squeeze one more in before we move home!
