Fun Facts--Vol. 1

I figured I would try to keep a list of interesting things that we see, taste, hear and experience that we may not back home.

After being here almost 2 weeks, I can tell you this much...

1) the drive on the left side of the road! Obviously, we knew that before we got here, but actually having to drive in opposite traffic is quite terrifying!

2) there is no such thing as central heating and A/C in most residential spaces. Our hotel did not have any and now our apartment doesn't have any. Due to the very mild climate, most people find that leaving blinds open during the day allows the sun to heat up apartments and that a floor fan suffices to cool things down in the summer...we'll see about that!

3) there is no filter or censoring on TV and radio. We flipped through channels last night and stopped on Hell's Kitchen (which is from last season, unfortunately) and there were all sorts of F-bombs being dropped...this is basic cable, folks!

4) everything here tastes a little sweeter. Ketchup, cheese, cereal, Coke & Sprite...everything has a slightly sweeter hint than things do back home.

5) the stoplights always show red AND green! It's especially confusing when driving, but they keep a green light (when you can go) and a red turn arrow (when you can't turn right or left), but it's all on the same light unlike separate turning lanes where the arrows are distinct for each lane.

That's all I can think of right now, but Im sure there will be lots more things in the future!
