Hi everyone! I keep trying to get into a regular routine for posting, so just bear with me for the time being until I get everything figured out! Anywho...here's a recap from this past weekend:
Friday night, we got to have a double date with some of our new friends, Erin & Scott*. They came over to apartment and we squeezed into our tiny living room for a quick drink (Erin & I had white wine and Drew & Scott had Maker's Mark...clearly, we all get along well!). Then we walked down to the waterfront area and had dinner at restaurant called Merchants of Venice. It was super yummy Italian food...we got risotto balls and pizza! After a 3.5 hour dinner we walked home and got an amazing view of the Sky Tower (see below). All in all, it was a great night with great new friends!
Then on Saturday, Drew and I we went back to the American Store so that we could get an American flag for our apartment. After that we headed to Drew's co-worker's apartment for an expat cookout. It was an absolutely gorgeous day outside--definitely not like the winter back home! We had some beer and ciders, stood out on the back porch with gorgeous views of the neighboring islands and grilled out sausages. I finally got to meet the guys that Drew works with and their wives/girlfriends--what a great group!* We had a great afternoon, complete with several hours of Rock Band!
After that, Drew took me up to see the PwC office and the AMAZING views from the 22nd floor!
After a nice dinner and movie at home on Saturday night, we got up early Sunday morning to go to church! We have looked up several churches in the area and this was the first one on our list. It was very much like our church from back home, but we've had some new friends invite us to their churches, so we'll probably try a bunch before settling on one!
After that, we used our free ferry passes to scoot across the harbour over to Devonport. It was a cute little area with lots of stores, restaurants and bakeries. We ate a great lunch of fish & chips and a cheeseburger (guess who had which!) and then walked around by the water. Of course, Kevin had to tag along!
We came home, did some grocery shopping, relaxed and watched movies once it started raining, and got geared up for a new week. It's hard to believe we've already been here for 3 weeks! Time is flying by already!
*These people mentioned in this post will be discussed in a later post about all of our new friends!
Cheers!
